Tips for Buying Laptop Batteries Online – Getting It Right

Posted on June 7th, 2011 in Laptop news | No Comments »

A good laptop battery is an absolute necessity if you have any intention of taking your computing with you.  A battery that is no longer able to hold a charge or take a charge means that you will have to be tethered to a wall any time you want to get work done or go online.  This more or less defeats the purpose of purchasing a laptop.  The number one reason that most people purchase a laptop computer is its portability.  Portability goes out the window if you are not able to trust that your battery is going to last to the duration of your computer using needs.

Purchasing a battery can be a costly endeavor if you buy one from the original manufacturer.  Most laptops must have a battery specifically designed for that model.  Because of this, the OEM is generally the first place that most people check when in need of a replacement battery.  The original equipment manufacturer would prefer that you purchase a new laptop rather than replacing the battery and will charge in unbelievably high price for a replacement unit.  A better alternative is to purchase a replacement or upgrade battery from an online retailer.  Online retailers are able to offer enormous cost savings when compared to traditional big box stores.

The HP TouchSmart tx2z Series

Posted on March 16th, 2011 in Laptop news | No Comments »

Technology advances at a rapid pace, and when a new technology catches on the debut will be quite expensive. When Dell releases the first multi-touch screen a couple of years ago, it was interesting technology but the price prevented any real serious look at the functionality of the computer. The HP TouchSmart tx2z series offers that same multi-touch technology, but at a price point that is more appealing to students and casual laptop users. HP may be on to something with the HP TouchSmart tx2z series, and the more they gear the new technology towards the retail consumer the more they will find success with their new releases.

The Dell multi-touch screen laptop was a technological breakthrough that was heralded by many of the science and computer magazines as the next wave of computer technology. The idea is not new as the concept of multi-touch screens was introduced to the consumer by Apple on the iPhone previously, but up until recently that technology did not find its way on to laptop computers. Dell dared to invest in the multi-touch screen technology for laptops and put out a unit that topped out at over $2,000. It has its following, but the HP TouchSmart tx2z series threatens to take that following away.

Top 10 Laptop Computers – Which Has the Longest Battery Life?

Posted on December 30th, 2010 in Laptop news | No Comments »

There are a number of factors that determine which laptop computer is the best for each individual, but battery life is usually among the most important features for just about every consumer. Unfortunately, the battery life advertised by manufacturers does not always represent real world performance and sometimes comes at the cost of other important features. Many manufacturers will use lower performance components in order to decrease the drain on the laptop’s battery thus producing a device with a long battery life but with frustratingly poor performance.

Laptop computers with the best overall battery life are generally net books. These devices’s diminutive size makes them the perfect portable computer for individuals on the go. It is not uncommon for the battery in a net book to last for 6 hours or longer on a full charge. The Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 will last over 7 hours on a full charge under the kind of conditions that most consumers are likely subject it to. The MSI Wind U160 and the Acer Aspire One 532h-2326 are two more net books that will last close to 7 hours. Unfortunately, many consumers find that net books do not meet their needs due to the lack of performance they offer. Their small size also means that they do not possess a CD or DVD drive.

Small laptops such as the Apple Mac Book and Apple Mac Book Pro possess a screen that is about 2 inches larger than the average net book and represents a step up in terms of performance. These small laptops will generally last for about 6 hours on a full charge. One drawback to Apple laptops is the fact that they do not have removable batteries.

Laptops are perhaps one of the hottest items in technology these days. Everyone wants to take their computer world on the go, whether the reasons are gaming, social, business or all of the above. There are bulky laptops and there are lighter weight laptops, the obvious choice is going to be a lighter weigh laptop as long as the performance measures up to what the consumer expects. Good processor speeds, sharp graphics and clear sound are just a few things the average consumer, gamer or business executive all wants to see in a quality laptop. The Samsung R540-11 has achieved that goal, a lighter laptop that can perform well on the go.

The Samsung R540-11 is a lightweight laptop weighing in at only 5.5 pounds that performs well in comparison with other laptops in its class. The appearance does throw some consumers off in that Samsung decided to make this laptop appear to be wood grain on the lid, making it look like a cheap counter top as opposed to a quality laptop computer. With a fast Core i5 processor and good, solid gaming graphics as well as a blu-ray drive included, the options on this Samsung R540-11 are attractive to many consumers. However, being top speed in its class has made this laptop suffer in the battery department, producing a small battery with a short battery life.
